Fraud Prevention FAQs
Take 5 is a UK-wide campaign offering simple, impartial advice to help you spot and avoid financial scams. It encourages you to Stop, Challenge, and Protect whenever you get a request for money or personal details. Learn how No1 Currency supports the Take 5 campaign here.
As a travel money provider, we want to make sure you stay vigilant against scams when purchasing or exchanging currency. Here are some common scams to be aware of:
Fake Travel Money Websites
Always buy currency from a trusted provider like No1 Currency and our trusted partners. Be wary of websites offering unrealistically high exchange rates.
Payment Redirection Scams
Fraudsters may pose as legitimate currency exchange providers and ask you to send money to a different account. Always verify payment details directly with the company.
Too-Good-To-Be-True Deals
If an exchange rate seems significantly better than others, double-check the legitimacy of the provider before making a purchase.
Impersonation Scams
An impersonation scam is where a criminal contacts you pretending to be a person or organisation you trust. Scammers can even impersonate police officers or bank officials and may ask you to withdraw or exchange money, claiming it’s for a police investigation. They might say the money is needed for fingerprint analysis, to “catch” criminals, or to secure your account. Never comply with such requests, as it’s a scam.
